IAU symposium n.325 on Astroinformatics (AstroInfo16) brings together world-class experts to address the methodological and technological challenges posed by the scientific exploitation of massive data sets produced by the new generation of telescopes and observatories...
This school is addressed to doctorates and post-docs working in astrophysics or particle physics, with special emphasis on those working on LHCb, Belle II, Gaia, CTA or MAGIC.
The School will be structured around two Kaggle-challenge-like projects, one in the domain of particle physics and one in astrophysics which highlight the two big groups of Machine Learning and Data Mining techniques: classification and separation. The basics of these techniques will be covered, both from the theoretical and from the practical (hands-on) point of view. On the last day, each student (or group of students) will present their work that will be ranked; a prize will be given to the best work.
THIRD COIN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The Cosmostatistics Initiative (COIN), an international group built under the auspices of
the International Astrostatistics Association (IAA), aims to create an interdisciplinary
environment where collaborations between astronomers, statisticians and machine learning experts can flourish.
It is designed to promote the development of a new family of tools for data exploration in astrophysics and
cosmology.
The CRPs are unstructured and intimate meetings, offering the opportunity for collaborative research, learning
and sharing of expertise with concrete scientific outcomes.
Products derived from previous edition of the meeting can be accessed here.
We hope to see you in Budapest.
